Sybex's book that is adequate for preparing for the Network+ certification exam. Authored by David Groth who is Network+, MCSE, CNI, and a full-time author and consultant. He is the author of the Sybex's best-selling A+ Complete Study Guide as well as Cabling: The Complete Guide to Network Wiring. While the co-author Toby Skandier, Network +, i-Net+, Server+, is in technical education development and delivery for Sprint Corporation.
The 560 pages book is divided into ten chapters along with a starter assessment and a glossary. The chapters go as follows: | Chapter Number | Chapter Title | | 1 | Network Fundamentals | | 2 | The OSI Model | | 3 | TCP/IP Fundamentals | | 4 | TCP/IP Utilities | | 5 | Network Operating Systems | | 6 | Wired and Wireless Networks | | 7 | WAN and Remote Access Technologies | | 8 | Network Access and Security | | 9 | Fault Tolerance and Disaster Recovery | | 10 | Network Troubleshooting |
This book goes in the right flow of information such that you can build a good background of information based on the first three chapters and move along until reaching the troubleshooting process. The gradual coverage of all exam objective resulted in the review and approval as CompTIA Authorized Quality Curriculum (CAQC) by CompTia themselves. This book includes instructional reviews that help students assess their learning comprehension and readiness for the exam, which is an important thing in a self-study guide. Perhaps another good point about this book are the examples and insights drawn from real-world experience. This issue is essential for people who seek real knowledge and not only exam preparation. A single downside that I have noticed in the book which is the network access and security topic. It was not explained as simple as the other topics were. But we should not forget that its not an easy topic and going into further details would only get the book out of the basics needed for the Network+ exam. I recommend this book for self-study and preparation for Network+ exam and as a future reference for basic topics of computer networks.
