A lot of my students ask me about the Microsoft certification welcome kits specifications and when to receive what. To clarify this issue, here is a table stating all the information.

Certification earned

Kit to be expected

What is in the kit?

MCP (one "classic" exam)

MCP Welcome Kit

  • Welcome letter

  • Certificate of achievement

  • Wallet card*

  • MCP lapel pin

  • %20 discount at MCPeStore

  • Worldwide customer service contact sheet

MCDST, MCAD, MCSD, MCSA, MCSE, or MCDBA

Credential Welcome Kit

  • Welcome letter

  • Certificate of achievement

  • Wallet card with cumulative credentials*

  • Twenty percent discount at MCPeStore

MCTS, MCPD, or MCITP with your first certification (For example, MCTS: SQL Server 2005, where this is your first MCTS certification)

New Generation Welcome Kit

  • Welcome letter

  • Certificate of achievement

  • Wallet card identifying your new generation credentials*

  • Twenty percent discount at MCPeStore

Additional Certifications on your MCTS, MCPD, or MCITP

Certificate for each additional certification earned

  • Paper certificate to be framed or filed

Charter Membership (available as promoted at launch of new certifications)

Charter Member certificate

  • Special letter of recognition

  • Charter member version of the standard certificate

Passed additional "classic" OR "new generation" exams that do not earn a credential

Exams are listed on your transcript. However, you will not receive any updated materials in hard-copy. To view, print, or share your transcript, visit the MCP Member Site.

* Because most customers prefer digital logos (available for download from the MCP site), Microsoft is no longer shipping hard-copy logo sheets in welcome kits. You can request a hard-copy from Microsoft by contacting your Regional Service Center.
